Domestic Violence
Domestic violence should not happen to anybody. Ever. Period. But it does - and when it does, there is help. Maybe you have lived with abuse, maybe it happened just once; maybe you work or live next to someone who is being abused right now. Whoever you are, this information can show you how and where to get help. We have tried to include information to help you get support and plan for your safety.
If this information applies to you, you just need to remember two things: first, abuse is never okay; second, you are not alone. Help is yours for the asking. If you know someone whom you think is being abused - a friend, family member, co-worker, client, patient or parishioner - please consider contacting the Stanford Police Department. Domestic violence is a crime without boundaries. It affects children, adults, the elderly and people with disabilities. It affects people from all walks of life and does not discriminate against, race, religion or economic class.

SAFE KIDS
Safe Kids Worldwide is the first and only international nonprofit organization dedicated solely to preventing unintentional childhood injury. Accidents kill one million children, each year around the world and permanently disable many more. In fact, more children ages 1 to 14 years die from accidents such as motor vehicle crashes, fires, drowning, poisoning and falls than any other cause. And almost all of these injuries are preventable. Our focus is on promoting changes in attitudes, behaviors, laws and the environment to prevent accidental injury to children. Safe Kids Worldwide depends on the support of grass roots networks in its 17 member countries to implement safety programs and hands-on training throughout the world. And these efforts have produced results. Canada achieved a 37 percent reduction in child accidental deaths in just seven years, the child death rate in Germany declined 80 percent since 1980 while Austria saw a 75 percent decline between 1983 and 2003. In the United States, we have contributed to a 45 percent reduction in the child fatality rate from accidental injury – saving an estimated 38,000 children’s lives.
Emergency Management
If the lights go out, are you prepared? That is a simple but necessary question that we must all ask ourselves. In the event of a power outage something as simple as having a flashlight and extra batteries available can make you and your family more comfortable during these times. Last year we all faced the effects of the ice storm. We want to help prepare you for any uncontrolable situation. Kentuckians face many challenges throughout the year, from tornadoes, flooding, winter storms to man made hazards. Every household should be prepared to face these challenges at any given time. Are you prepared?
